How to Solve the Nation’s Traffic Problem: Sell the Streets

Fed up with traffic congestion, seemingly endless construction, and poor quality roads? Why not take David Friedman’s advice and sell the streets as he says in his book The Machinery of Freedom?

Privatization of the streets isn’t such a crazy idea. A company that owns a road wants to make a profit and please his customers. That company has more incentive to eliminate gridlock than any urban planner.

The private road owner will, unlike the city, be interested in keeping drivers happy by performing regular, and efficient, maintenance on the streets. Plus, there is no danger that money collected from a private toll will be used for some other city project.

Street Racing: Jump The Baracades

Recently I’ve become a huge fan of street racing. I found this video on Youtube of some kids who got caught street racing, the police baracaded them in, but a small group manages to jump the baracades and speed away. Hilarious and ballsy if you ask me.

Solazyme’s Algae-Derived BioDiesel Passes Defense Departments Cold Weather Testing

In a recent news release from Solazyme and as reported at this years Worldwide Energy and Trade Show yesterday, their algae-derived biodiesel has passed its Department of Defense cold weather testing. To demonstrate the performance and readiness of their product an unmodified Ford F-450 diesel was driven to the conference fueled by Solazyme’s biodiesel by former Director of the CIA, James Woolsey.

Testing of Solazyme’s biodiesel was ordered by the Department of Defense and performed by the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI). Their conclusion proved that Solazyme’s product performed much better than any other biodiesel that has been tested in cold climates. That is good news for a military force with bases all over the world in all climates who is under a directive to substantially decrease its own dependency on foreign petroleum. Not only is the Algae BioDiesel usable in the F-450, but also in all military diesel fueled engines and can also be converted into Jet Fuel.

From the My Hemmings Reader Videos – GTX, day of arrival

Good news, everybody! You’ve known for a while now that you can upload a video along with your online classified with Hemmings to help sell your car, but now you can also upload your videos of your cars just to show off in the Reader Videos section of My Hemmings. And we’ve already seen a few videos roll in, including the above video from member abrke, who apparently couldn’t wait to start burning rubber with his GTX and christened it and his driveway before he could even bother to put plates on it!
