Toyota Set to Launch 10 New Hybrid Models by 2010

Toyota, not to be outdone by Honda unveiled the third-generation Prius and Lexus' first dedicated hybrid the HS 250h at the Detroit Auto Show this week.

During the unveiling of the 2010 Prius, Toyota provided more details about its current hybrid plans. Toyota plans on selling 1 million hybrids per year sometime in 2010. In order to reach its lofty goal, Toyota is planning on introducing 10 new hybrid models by 2010. Two of them are the new Prius and HS 250h.

In addition to launching 10 new hybrids, Toyota also announced the introduction of 500 Prius plug-in hybrids that will be globally leased later this year. The plan was originally planned for 2010. Out of the 500 lithium-ion powered plug-ins 150 are destined for the U.S.

The 500 plug-in Prius will be used for market and engineering analysis.

Honda has officially unveiled the refreshed 2009 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Hybrid.

Will the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Manage to Beat the Nissan GT-R's Nurburgring Time?

Yesterday Nissan announced that the Nissan GT-R completed a lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:29. That announcement may be put to rest sooner than later if GM engineers manage to pull it off. They are hard at work on the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1. Last week GM released official stats, 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque. GM also released a video of the car reaching 205 mph on the track.

2008 Nissan GT-R - Godzilla Awakes On Steroids

I find it extremely interesting to compare the sizes and designs between the 5th generation (1999–2002) R34 Skyline GT-R and the new R35 GT-R thanks to these photos from Jalopnik. It’s crazy how much larger the 2008 GT-R is when sized up behind (insert joke) the retired R34 Skyline.

When the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R was released in 1989, it was rated by many motoring magazines, as providing performance and handling similar to that of European icons like the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari Testarossa, but at a considerably lower price.

The Porsche 959 was Nissan’s target when designing the Skyline R32 GT-R. The chief engineer, Naganori Itoh, intended to use the car for Group A racing, so the design specification was drawn up in conjunction with a copy of the Group A rules.

The R32 GT-R was introduced in the Australian Bathurst 1000 touring-car race to compete against GM Holden and Ford V8 saloons, winning in 1991 & 1992. This success led to the Australian motoring press naming the car Godzilla due to it being a “monster from Japan” and as Australia was the first export market for the car the name quickly spread.

To put Australian motoring press tag of “Godzilla - Monster from Japan” in perspective keep in mind that the R32 GT-R won against GM Holden and Ford V8 saloons with its RB26DETT 2.6 litre inline 6 Twin Turbo Engine… THATS PRETTY FUCKING RIDICULOUS and just goes to further exemplify how advanced this car and all its systems were at the time.

Infiniti Wants to Increase Its Lineup with New Models and a GT-R Based Coupe

According to Nissan's global design chief Shiro Nakamura, Infiniti is considering adding new models to its lineup that will stray from Infiniti's current image. A new small car, a large "people mover", a GT-R based coupe and new smaller engines are reportedly in the works.

2010 Acura NSX Caught Testing in Germany?

Spy photographers spotted an interesting Honda S2000 in a workshop next to the Nurburgring. They managed to catch a few shots of the car, although it has remained in the workshop all day. What is interesting about the S2000 is that it has been heavily modified with riveted panels to add length and width to the car.

The hood line has been beefed up and the passenger compartment is also bigger. This test mule is very close to the new 2009/2010 NSX and Honda could be using this heavily modified S2000 to test the upcoming powertrain and platform for the next NSX. Notice the four tailpipes in back, the huge B Pillar and the heavy-duty double wishbone suspension.
